Pilot Programs
2016-2017 School Year:
Student Conferencing and Student-led Conferencing:
During the implementation of the 2015-2016 Student Conferencing Pilot, teachers made a few realizations:
Students will have the opportunity to showcase their learning during Student Exhibition Nights which will be in November of 2016 and April of 2017.
2015-2016 School Year:
Student Conferencing:
Our first and fourth grade teams recognize the need to empower students to create academic goals and progress monitor their achievements. In an effort to involve students in goal setting and in making decisions about their learning, these teachers have decided to study the effects of student conferencing on student achievement. The steps of the pilot are described below:
Student Conferencing and Student-led Conferencing:
During the implementation of the 2015-2016 Student Conferencing Pilot, teachers made a few realizations:
- Students had difficulty making the connection between their academic goals based on benchmark data and their achievements in between testing windows.
- Parents were not involved in the conferencing, which left out a major stakeholder.
- Teachers were not able to meet on a more frequent basis with each student since the data were only collected during 3 testing periods.
- Teachers will meet more frequently with students using a common form for data collection (This year, students will take the MAP test during each benchmark period, rather than the IKAN/GLOSS and F & P Benchmark assessment.).
- Teachers will use formative instructional practices to help students identify their personal learning targets and support them in making decisions about their learning to ultimately demonstrate mastery of learning targets.
- Each semester, every student will conduct a student-led conference with his or her guardian to communicate academic goals, strategies being implemented to achieve said goals, the progress being made towards the academic goals, and to reflect on what is or is not working to contribute to the success of his or her learning experiences.
Students will have the opportunity to showcase their learning during Student Exhibition Nights which will be in November of 2016 and April of 2017.

- Teachers will administer the IKAN, GLOSS, and F & P Benchmark assessments during each testing window (FALL, Winter, Spring).
- Each teacher will meet with individual students to review the results, co-create academic goals based on the data, and reflect on the actions needed for improvement. As the year progresses, students will reflect on the progress made during each benchmark period and the correlation between positive learning behaviors and academic achievement.
