Our Vision for 2019
Unity Grove Elementary will be an exemplary personalized learning community whose graduates are empowered to engage in a complex, interconnected, changing world. We believe that this can be achieved by facilitating a dynamic learning environment supported by data driven decision making among teachers, students, and parents.
In a dynamic learning environment, students will choose the pathway they consider to be the most effective in meeting their educational needs and interests. Students and teachers will use data to determine the targeted competencies/standards and then create an individualized plan for mastery that may include a project-based learning investigation, online adaptive curriculum, small group instruction, or a combination of options using a blended format.
Although some students may not explicitly choose project-based learning as the primary means for new knowledge, the elements of project-based learning will still be practiced to promote inquiry within the community. All students and teachers will use a common language for learning and utilize protocols for structured collaboration which maximize the the learning experiences for each student. In addition, regardless of the pathway chosen, all students will engage in authentic experiences that model those in real-life, therefore preparing them for the future.
A shift from our current practice to the model described addresses the needs identified during the “Needs Assessment” conducted last spring. Students expressed that they wanted more timely feedback, one-to-one time with the teacher, and multiple opportunities to demonstrate mastery. Teachers expressed that they wanted to learn strategies for efficiently meeting the needs of students with varied entry points and for supporting students in progress monitoring their own academic growth. A data driven dynamic learning environment meets the needs expressed by our stakeholders and satisfies the needs of 21st century learners.
These core beliefs and values will guide how we facilitate a dynamic learning environment to develop 21st century skills and ensure our students are future-ready:
We at Unity Grove strive to turn content into knowledge and knowledge into wisdom. A data driven dynamic learning environment charges each stakeholder with transforming learners from passive consumers to active owners of their education.

These core beliefs and values will guide how we facilitate a dynamic learning environment to develop 21st century skills and ensure our students are future-ready:
- Learners are more engaged in their learning when they are supported in risk-taking.
- Students should have ownership of their learning so that they are committed to their success.
- Teachers should be reflective, collaborative, and innovative with their teaching practices so that they create learning experiences that engage students and meet students’ needs.
- Students need to communicate and collaborate with teachers and other students.
- Teachers and students must be able to participate in a cooperative and distributive leadership model in order to make academic decisions, build trust, and establish expectations for increased rigor.
- Students need a variety of choices in the classroom that meet each student’s strengths, needs, and interests in order for students to meet their learning targets.
- Teachers and students use data from various sources to inform their teaching and learning decisions.
